As a reminder, health agencies advise the following guidelines to avoid the spread of infection:

  • If you are sick, stay home;
  • If you have a fever, call you family doctor or call 8-1-1 to speak to a health care provider;
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick;
  • Avoid shaking hands;
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately throw the tissue in the garbage; and
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. 

The provincial government has developed a non-emergency line for those with non-medical questions related to COVID-19: 1-888-COVID19. This phone line is staffed from 7:30 am to 8 pm and offered in more than 110 languages.

Social distancing is a way that we can slow the spread of COVID-19 by limiting close contact with others. Even though we are not sick, we should still keep about two meters (six feet) or the length of a queen-sized bed from one another when we can when outside our homes.

The BC Ministry of Health has developed a self-assessment tool to help you determine whether you may need further assessment or testing for COVID-19. You can complete this assessment for yourself, or on behalf of someone else, if they are unable to: COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool.

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there is an error in the application.

People asked to self-isolate should stay home and limit contact with others for 14 days. To limit contact with others, you should

  • Stay home
  • Avoid those who have chronic conditions, compromised immune systems and older adults
  • Avoid having visitors to your home
  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your arm when coughing or sneezing

During a period of self-isolation, self-monitor for fever, cough or difficulty breathing. If you have these symptoms call the local public health authority or 8-1-1.
